The deadline for applications is 11 November 2017

Registrations are now open for the 22nd edition of the International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival Stuttgart, organised by the Volkshochschule Stuttgart. The festival is looking for choreographers and dancers from all around the world, ready to perform a solo piece which is new, original, imaginative, unique and which displays unusual achievement.

The festival, under the artistic direction of Marcelo Santos, will provide an overview of the latest trends in the solo-dance-theatre scene. The esteemed international jury will judge choreographic and dance skills as well as musicality, interpretation and performance.

Choreographers may participate in the competition with a solo piece that is either to be presented as a premiere or must not have been performed on stage for the first time before March 2017. The duration of the performance must be between nine and 12 minutes. The choreographies should be developed along the lines of a contemporary and genuine movement language. The applicant is free to choose the subject and music. The piece may be interpreted by the choreographer him/herself. The dancer must be aged 30 or younger.

To apply, candidates should fill in the online application form by selecting one of the following options:

Applicants should also send an online link showing the choreographic work (as well as a rehearsal) that shall be presented at the festival.

The deadline for applications is 11 November 2017 (midnight CET).

The successful choreographers and dancers will receive an invitation by 19 December 2017 and will have to confirm their attendance by 5 January 2018.

Prizes of a total value of €16,000 will be awarded.

The festival will cover accommodation (in a double room, shared with another participant), hotel costs (including breakfast) and a subsidy towards travel expenses.

Competitors are obliged to be available for performances on the four festival days. They agree to be available for rehearsals, interviews, movie and television recordings, and photos, free of charge. The event will be broadcast live on the following website: www.treffpunkt-rotebuehlplatz.de.

The award winners also agree to attend and perform during the “Gala of Winners”. The tour will take place in Germany from 16-26 November 2018 (global fee, travel expenses, accommodation costs and catering will be covered).
