Apply for a two-year art residency in Amsterdam at De Ateliers – Call for Residency

Deadline: 1 February 2018

Artists can now apply to participate in De Ateliers’ two-year residency programme, which will begin on 1 September 2018. Ten studios in central Amsterdam will become available for long term residencies in 2018.

De Ateliers offers unique opportunities for talented artists to develop their work at the highest level. Artists will be able to work in large (70 to 100 m²) private studios and benefit from inspiring visits by prominent artists and art professionals, within a stimulating international working environment.

Applications are open to artists at the beginning of their professional career. Candidates under the age of 30 are preferred; however, artists of all ages are welcome to apply. Portfolios will be assessed by the tutor artists of De Ateliers.

The deadline for applications is 1 February 2018.

All successful applicants will receive a stipend of € 13.655 to cover living expenses, in addition to a private studio and weekly studio visits. They will also have access to workshops, technical assistance, a library, artist talks and administration services. A tutorial fee of € 3.200 for 2017-2018 will be requested.

De Ateliers offers several workshops for wood, metal, and synthetics, in addition to a dark room for analogue photography and a sound proof studio for digital video editing. These workshops are supervised by two technicians who are available for technical guidance.

During the year, De Ateliers organizes several exhibitions and activities open to the public. These include the annual Offspring Exhibition, which has taken place each May since 2006. Participants concluding their two-year working period show their works to a wide audience of art enthusiasts and art professionals. Each year, a prominent artist or curator is invited to coordinate the show, which is eagerly anticipated by the public and the press. With each Offspring Exhibition, a new catalogue is published.

In collaboration with housing cooperation Ymere, De Ateliers has six apartments (nineteen rooms in total) available in Amsterdam Centre, Amsterdam East and Amsterdam South. Rooms are offered first to foreign participants. The average rent per month is € 350.

When a participant from outside the EU starts the two-year working period, De Ateliers (a recognised sponsor) will apply for a residence permit at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service. This residence permit will be valid during the two-year working period. The costs of this permit are at the expense of the participant and will be approximately €317 (based on the costs of 2017).
