EU call for proposals: Cultural heritage for social and economic development in Egypt

The deadline for the submission of concept notes is 30 April at 16:00 (Brussels time)

The European Commission has published a restricted call for project proposals focusing on cultural heritage in Egypt. The call is seeking projects that foster the development of cultural heritage with the ultimate aim of boosting social and economic growth.

Heritage, if properly managed, can be instrumental in enhancing social inclusion, developing intercultural dialogue, shaping the identity of a given territory, improving the quality of the environment, providing social cohesion, stimulating the development of tourism, creating jobs and enhancing the investment climate.

The EU-funded Inclusive Economic Growth Programme (IEGP) is aimed at promoting Egypt's economic recovery by improving the business environment and by capitalising on its rich cultural heritage. The programme contains a grant window that aims to finance initiatives demonstrating the link between heritage and socio-economic development. This window will contribute to the revitalisation of strategic cultural heritage sites all over the country and make them drivers and stimuli for sustainable economic initiatives and entrepreneurship within the communities surrounding the sites.

The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is €2.5 million. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must range between €350,000 and €1.2 million and represent between 30% and 90% of the total eligible costs of the action. The remainder must be financed from sources other than the European Union budget or the European Development Fund.

The grant may cover the entire eligible costs of the action if this is deemed essential for its completion and under particular conditions detailed in the guidelines for the call.

As a restricted call for proposals, in the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been shortlisted will be invited to submit a full application. Applicants must apply in English.

Applications at the concept-note level must be submitted in accordance with the concept-note instructions as detailed in Annex A.1. However, before applying, it is highly recommended to carefully read the full guidelines for the call.
