Grants to develop new generation of photojournalists to tell original human stories from around the world – Call for applications

Reuters, the world’s largest international multimedia news provider, reaching more than one billion people every day, is offering up to eight $5,000 USD grants to photojournalists or students interested in working on photo assignments and projects to advance their visual storytelling abilities.
The grant programme seeks to recruit and develop a diverse new generation of photojournalists to tell original human stories from around the world.
Eight candidates will be selected to receive $5,000 USD. Pictures taken by grant recipients will be distributed globally on Reuters platforms. Reuters photojournalist and senior editor Yannis Behrakis will advise recipients on their assignments and projects, providing advice and planning assistance.
Reuters invites emerging talents from all backgrounds to apply. Candidates do not need to be professional photojournalists, but must demonstrate an ability to successfully conceive and complete their grant project.
To apply, candidates must complete the online application form and attach the following documents:
- A CV;
- A 35-50 picture portfolio (JPEG format) of both single images and multi-image stories;
- A detailed cover letter explaining the project or idea to realise with the grant (a project focused on a subject in a community or location within close proximity that can be completed in a few weeks or months is advisable).
The deadline for applications is 10 November 2017.
The project covered by the grant must be realised between 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.
