Xabaca will promote creation by Arab female performers and visual artists – Call for residency

Deadline: 1 July 2018
Xabaca, an international network against censorship and stereotypes on Arab’s women art established in 2017, is now accepting applications for its next residency, to be held in November 2018, and that is exclusively intended at women living and working in the MENA region!
Xabaca wants to support female Arab creators for two reasons: their role in social transformation through art and for the double oppression they face for being artists and women.
The residency will be supporting artistic development to enhance art and creativity as means to combat gender discrimination, censorship and social injustice; and to reinforce capacity development.
The residency will take place at Jiwar Creation and Society (Barcelona) from 1 November to 1 December 2018. Xabaca will cover travel and accommodation costs, including 450 € per diem for each of the two selected artists. 200€ are also available to cover production material. The residency also includes a training about “Art and social transformation”.
To apply, please send an email to jiwar@jiwarbarcelona.com and include the following (in one PDF of maximum 5 pages):
- A cover letter (maximum 1200 characters without spaces);
- Statement/artist pro le (maximum 1000 characters without spaces);
- A project proposal to be realised during the residency including technical requirements and objectives (maximum 2000 characters without spaces);
- A short CV;
- A list of the languages spoken by the candidate.
