The Jan Michalski Foundation Supports Literary Creation – Call for Residency

Deadline: 31 August 2018

The Jan Michalski Foundation for Writing and Literature is now accepting applications for its next round of residencies, available to writers engaged in any type of literary creation, beginning February 2019.

The mission of the Jan Michalski Foundation is to foster literary creation and encourage the practice of reading through a range of initiatives and activities. These include supporting exhibitions and cultural events that have a connection with writing and literature, making a large multilingual library available to the public, awarding an annual prize in world literature, granting financial support, and hosting a writer-in-residency programme.

In 2019, six “Treehouses”, located at the foot of the Swiss Jura Mountains in Montricher, will be hosting writers for two week, one month, two month, three month or six month stays.

Residents’ travel costs to and from their home country will be covered by the Foundation. The Foundation provides breakfast and lunch for residents. Residents will have also free access to the library during the day, can participate in cultural activities organized by the Foundation, and are granted a monthly allowance of CHF 1200.

Applications will be assessed based on three criteria: the quality of the project, the candidate’s professional background, and whether or not the duration of the stay matches the scope of the project. Beginners’ applications are assessed based on the quality of the project and the motivation they are able to convey in their application.

There are no age or nationality restrictions. Novice writers are accepted.

To apply, please complete the online application form.

The deadline for applications is 31 August 2018.

Selected candidates will be contacted individually in November 2018 and a period of residency will be suggested. Only selected candidates will be notified.
